About Feed Viewer

The people behind Feed Viewer, how each article about RSS readers, curation, social feeds and newsletters is put together, and what we will not publish.

About this blog

Feed Viewer publishes when there is something to publish. There is no schedule and no filler, and every piece stays in the archive even after we have changed our minds about it.

We started publishing after realising that the useful information about RSS readers, curation, social feeds and newsletters existed, but only in the heads of people who had no reason to write it down. Feed Viewer writes it down.

The limits of this site

We are not the right place for advice tailored to your exact situation. Feed Viewer publishes general guidance, and the difference matters more than it sounds.

The method

The method is dull and it works. Explain what happens, explain what it costs, explain what can go wrong, then stop writing.

We buy what we write about. It is slower, it is more expensive, and it is the only arrangement that lets us say a thing was not worth it.

If you want the mechanics rather than the summary, the editorial policy has them, including what we refuse to publish.

The people

Every article carries the name of the person who wrote it, and every name links to a page listing everything else they have written.

Leocadia Fennimore, Feeds and RSS editor. Leocadia has used RSS since the days of Google Reader and never stopped. She edits the site's feed and reader coverage and keeps around four hundred subscriptions under control.

Mateus Oyelaran, Social media and curation writer. Mateus ran social media accounts for brands before deciding most feeds were designed to be endless. He now writes about curating them back into something useful.

Winifred Castellane, Reading tools reviewer. Winifred is a digital librarian who tests read-later apps, highlighters and note tools. She writes about reading lists people actually finish and the tools that help.

How this is paid for

There is no subscription, no newsletter upsell and no course. If that changes we will announce it on this page before anywhere else.

What we publish

  • RSS Readers. RSS and feed readers, the oldest calm way to follow the web.
  • Curation. Choosing, filtering and saving what is worth reading.
  • Social Feeds. Making social media feeds serve you instead of the other way round.
  • Newsletters. Subscribing to, managing and enjoying email newsletters.
  • Games. Video games and gaming, from what we play to how games connect to the rest of life.

Nothing gets filed under three headings at once. If a piece does not have an obvious home, that usually means it has not been thought through yet. The busiest sections are rss readers, curation and social feeds.

Why this name

People ask about the name. There is rarely a good story behind a domain, and there is not one here either. Feed Viewer was available, it was short enough to say out loud, and it has been the name long enough now that changing it would be more confusing than keeping it.

Fixing mistakes

Corrections go to info@feedviewerapp.com. Quote the sentence rather than describing it. We would rather log a visible correction than edit a page and hope nobody noticed, and the contact page explains the rest.
